In 2017 VAS (led by Volunteer Glasgow and Trust Volunteering, Inverclyde) and DWP put in place a national partnership agreement and guidance with the aim of synchronizing the local support and information provided to people (by TSIs and Job Centre Plus offices) about volunteering. The Guidance is used widely throughout the TSI network and beyond.

We are now delighted to announce that Phase 2 of the project will be delivered over the next few months. It aims to support and enable delivery of the partnership agreement at a local level by providing practical tools for:

  • TSI master class workshops on volunteering for DWP/JCP staff
  • Supporting understanding within TSIs of social security and welfare reform developments

The aim is to promote and support good working relationships between TSIs and DWP locally; enabling volunteering as option for more welfare benefit claimants and better volunteering referrals.

The work on the master classes will be led for VAS by Fife Voluntary Action (FVA) and supported by Volunteer Glasgow. We’ll shortly be issuing a short scoping survey and WANT ALL TSIs TO TAKE PART – this is really important as the tools and support to be developed will be directly informed by feedback received. TSIs will be contacted directly about this shortly.
