Legislation is only one part of the process to truly empower our communities, that is the message from Voluntary Action Scotland.
VAS was responding to the Local Government and Regeneration Committee’s call for evidence on the recently published Community Empowerment (Scotland) Bill.
The Bill aims to empower communities by increasing communities say in community planning, creating a participation request mechanism to allow community bodies to shape service design and delivery and increase opportunities for communities to take control of assets, amongst a number of other reforms.
VAS has produced it’s response calling for a greater community focus, including ‘bottom up’ service design and delivery, improved third sector say on community planning, and greater capacity building and resourcing of community bodies. Central to this is a focus on reducing inequalities across all of Scotland’s communities.
