Today (Monday 1st June) marks the start of Volunteer’s Week 2015. Volunteers’ Week is an annualevent which takes place on 1-7 June. It celebrates the contribution made by millions of volunteers across the UK.

Across Scotland throughout the week; the Third Sector Interfaces are supporting a range of events and celebrations to thank, and highlight the valuable contribution of, volunteers in their area. Each day we will feature highlights of some of the things that are happening across the TSI Network. To find out more about what’s happing in your area contact your local Third Sector Interface:

Today, Monday 1st June:

  • East Dunbartonshire Voluntary Action is heading around the community with banners and flyers – libraries, college, leisure centres & community halls.
  • In East Renfrewshire Pulse FM Radio will host their afternoon show from the Voluntary Action East Renfrewshire underCOVER office. People can pop along and learn more about what they do and it is the first of a weeklong series of sessions where active volunteers or local organisations can go along to Pulse FM to promote the benefits they get from volunteering or for organisations to advertising volunteering roles.
  • Fife Voluntary Action are holding their prestigious volunteers Awards Ceremony at Rothes Halls in Glenrothes. This will recognise and reward the effort of volunteers, organisations and community groups that are serving the people and communities of Fife with a number of Award categories to be made.
  • Trust Volunteering in Inverclyde as part of their week long Inverclyde FestiVol will have a street stall in Port Glasgow and an open day at the Westburn Centre in Greenock
  • North Ayrshire TSI will hold it an Oscars Awards Ceremony tonight – it is a special evening to celebrate the success of all Volunteers at the Civic Centre, Ardrossan. Volunteers from all over North Ayrshire will walk the red carpet to receive their certificates of volunteering recognition.
  • Volunteer Centre Western Isles is launching Volunteers in Action - a photo exhibition of 100 photos in Stornoway. The exhibition will open at 11am with a short ceremony and is being staged in Pointers Youth Café and is open for 3 days.
  • Voluntary Action Angus are opening an Exhibition of Services in Forfar; it is an opportunity for all organisations to show the impact they are making locally. This is the first in a week long programme of activities. 


Also going on across the week:

  • Voluntary Action South Lanarkshire is holding its best dressed window competition for Volunteers’ Week again this year. In keeping with this year’s theme, organisations are invited to dress a window in a ‘green’ theme. ‘Volun-tree Action’ South Lanarkshire will see rose bushes named  ‘South Lanarkshire Volunteers.’ planted in 10 local dedication ceremonies across the area this week
  • TSI Moray is running a Volunteer Story digital campaign with the trending hashtag #ivolunteer. They will use their Outstanding Volunteer of the Year nominations as inspiration for case study stories and each day will release and highlight a new story.!volunteer-awards-2015/cr8x
  • Signpost, part of the Highland TSI partnership are holding an Open Doors Week from Monday through to Thursday. Each day will be themed around a specific volunteering category and give organisations the chance to promote their work and for people in the community to come in see what opportunities are available to them.
  • For the whole week Clackmannanshire TSI will have a market stall in Alloa High Street to promote and recognise volunteering for Clackmannanshire. Go along and say hello!
