Voluntary Action Scotland (VAS), the network organisation for Scotland’s local third sector support agencies, has announced the appointment of David Anderson as Convenor. David, a former local authority Chief Executive, arrives at VAS an important time in the development of VAS and its network of 32 Third Sector Interfaces (TSIs). As Convenor, David will chair the board of VAS and help VAS, its team and members in the challenge to grow the role of Scotland’s third sector.
David has 18 years of experience as a Chief Officer in Local Government and continues to undertake work to support local government and third sector organisations. David’s career began in work to support local communities and he brings to VAS a passion and commitment to community engagement and development;
“It is a great privilege to be leading VAS and its network at this crucial time. Now more than ever Scotland needs a strong third sector and responsive local third sector infrastructure. I look forward to bringing my knowledge and experience to that challenge in the coming months and years”.
Voluntary Action Scotland’s Chief Executive, Calum Irving, appointed in August 2012 welcomed David’s appointment and paid tribute to the outgoing convenor, Harriet Eadie;
“Our network and board recognise the great value in having an independent Convenor. David will bring with him experience of particular relevance to the challenges VAS and TSIs face. I look forward to working with him to build upon the hard work of Harriet Eadie and her colleagues in growing a robust network with the interests of volunteers, voluntary organisations and social enterprises at its heart.”
